Tony Black Trio w/ Jeff Sipe & Mike Barnes
January 16 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Tony Black is a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer based in Waynesville, North Carolina. He curates this ensemble of jazz musicians with a shared focus on jazz as an improvisational art form and vehicle for higher expression.
While widely recognized for his work in successful rock projects, including the Marshall Tucker Band, Tony has maintained a deep and enduring relationship with jazz throughout his career. From 1998–2000, he performed with EYEDENTITY, an innovative jazz project that at various times featured legendary Brazilian jazz artists Flora Purimand Airto Moreira, alongside Motown studio icon Wah Wah Watson.
In the Asheville area, Tony has performed jazz with notable musicians including Mike Barnes, Alan Hall, Jeff Sipe, Mike Rhodes, and Jason DeCristofaro, among many others. Grounded in tradition and driven by exploration, Tony’s work honors the spirit of jazz while pushing toward new expressive possibilities
