Before Jay Sanders learned to play, he learned what playing is for. His earliest musical education came not from charts or chord books but from teachers who spoke of fundamental vibration, sacred geometry, and the Music of the Spheres — the ancient idea that the cosmos itself moves in patterns that sound, at its deepest level, is trying to describe. Later, he absorbed a cosmology in which music is not entertainment but architecture — a way of organizing the invisible. These weren’t lessons in how to play. They were lessons in why.

Everything that followed has been in service of that question. Sanders is a guitarist, composer, and bandleader whose music exists at the intersection of jazz, rock, blues, metal, and African influences — forged through decades of improvisational study and a lifelong pursuit of sound as something older and stranger than music itself. He has performed across 47 states and six countries, composed for string quartets and symphony orchestras, and released work the international press has called “astonishing” in its range — most recently his 2024 solo debut Evanescent, which includes a tone poem dedicated to the Voyager spacecraft drifting through interstellar space.

This quartet — Sanders on guitar, Will Boyd on reeds and winds, Zack Page on bass, and Alan Hall on drums — plays original music built in real time from instinct, attention, and decades of accumulated craft.
