You are invited to our 46th. annual Heritage Weekend on September 19 and 20 at the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Many of you have been to this fun event in the past and we will again host over 20 heritage artist, musicians and dancers to honor and celebrate Mountain Heritage Crafts.

One of the highlights of the celebration is our Annual World Gee Haw Whimmy Diddle competition on Saturday afternoon.

A Whimmy Diddle is an Appalachian mountain toy, traditionally made from 2 sticks  of rhododendron. Notches are carved into the stick and a propeller is attached to the end. Rubbing the notches with the second stick makes the propeller spin! The trick is to make it spin gee (to the right) or haw (to the left).

Contestants are judged by their skills and interesting prizes will be awarded.

The music stage will provide entertainment with Blue Grass and Gospel music, and cloggers will demonstrate the mountain dance tradition.
