AmiciMusic presents “TRAGIC TRIOS” A Musical Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
September 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$18Join us for this somber, but powerful tribute on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Violinist Frances Hsieh (from Charleston) and cellist Franklin Keel (from Asheville) will join me to perform two incredible Piano Trios that were composed at times of immense tragedy. Dmitri Shostakovich started his Second Piano Trio in 1943 after finding out about the death of his good friend, Ivan Solletinsky. As news spread about the Concentration Camps in Germany, Shostakovich expanded the work to include Jewish themes and the Trio turned into an incredibly powerful tribute to the Holocaust victims and a despairing look at humanity. Bedrich Smetana’s Piano Trio in G Minor was composed shortly after two of his young girls had passed away. Smetana pours his grief into this amazing Trio that highlights human suffering, but also the will to keep living even in the face of unimaginable horror.
Pianist/Artistic Director Daniel Weiser is joined by violinist Frances Hsieh from Charleston and cellist Franklin Keel from Asheville to perform two poignant Piano Trios.Dr. Weiser will talk about both pieces before they are performed and they will have their patented PianoCam so that everyone in the audience can see the keyboard.
