Transatlantic duo, A Different Thread are Starting Over Again with New Album and Asheville Release Show at Jack of the Wood.

Alicia Best of Durham, North Carolina, and Robert Jackson from the UK first met busking in Ireland and spent the next decade building their band across oceans. Finally putting down roots together in North Carolina, the duo are celebrating a new beginning with the release of their third album,Over Again. To mark the occasion, A Different Thread will perform a special full-band album release show on May 8th at Jack of the Wood, kicking off a 100-date international tour. 

Their sound is transcontinental, blending Jackson’s British folk rock background with Best’s North Carolina-bred alt-country melodies. Informed by their life experiences (navigating visas, vanlife, love across oceans) and liberal commentary on both environmental and social justice topics, the album mixes electric guitars with Appalachian dulcimer, gospel-tinged vocals with honky-tonk fiddle. While inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers, and John Prine, A Different Thread maintain a distinct sound that is all their own.

Jack Of The Wood is still a downtown hot spot for food, brews and drink since 1997 and founders Joan and Joe Eckert who still own it, have maintained the original lively English and Irish vibe. The old-time mountain and Irish music jams continue, including a hot bluegrass jam Thursdays and brunch every Sunday.
