Wrealist kicked off in 2025 when Ken Chapple decided it was time to bring his original music to life in a new wayβmixing American roots with deep, groove-heavy jams pulled from funk, jazz, and a touch of EDM. The result? A sound thatβs soulful, a little wild, and never quite does what you expect. Think Medeski Martin & Wood energy with lyricsβearthy, experimental, and always pushing into new territory. Every tune feels like a journey, blending storytelling with tight, in-the-moment interplay.
Before plugging in, Ken spent years in the bluegrass world, releasing four albums of original music and playing big stages like Wintergrass, Northwest String Summit, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. His guitar style has always blurred linesβmixing jazz, rock, and blazing flatpicking into something uniquely his own. With Wrealist, he lets it all stretch outβexploring huge sonic landscapes and weaving lyrics that can feel mysterious, playful, and sometimes otherworldly.
Backing him up is a crew that brings serious heat: Matthias Sayour on drums, known for pushing rhythms into almost electronic territory; Chris Burbach on keys, bringing a deep jazz feel; and Kyle French holding it down with irresistibly funky bass lines.
