DESCRIPTION:Atlanta bandleader & tenor saxophonist Tyler Levy brings a stellar Southern quartet to Hotel Eve Jazz Club for a special performance celebrating the release of Tyler’s new LP/album\, Appointment in Atlanta. The group features Tyler on tenor saxophone\, Nathanael Smith on piano\, Steve LaSpina on bass\, Ryan Ptasnik on drums\, and special guest vocalist Maria Rossotto. \nTyler’s quartet will perform two sets of powerful\, rarely heard/performed hard bop\, spiritual jazz\, and latin/world jazz including music by sax legends Gato Barbieri\, Dexter Gordon\, Billy Harper\, Sonny Rollins\, Pharoah Sanders\, and Bobby Watson; selections from Tyler’s new album/release Appointment in Atlanta; and a special arrangement of a Ray Barretto tune by Tyler’s pianist/sideman Nathanael Smith. \nThis group’s sound\, which is informed by Tyler’s environmental and human rights work/advocacy\, reflects a deep commitment to truth\, melody\, freedom & emotional expression-the essence of modern jazz.
