Sometime about a year or so ago we saw a flyer on their wall advertising something called “Jam Grass Jam”. A weekly event hosted by the @saylorbrothers (of @brushfirestankgrass fame) and bassist extraordinaire @stig_stiglets . We showed up, it was a ton of fun, so we went the next week.
And the next week.
And the week after that.
Wednesdays quickly turned into one of the most exciting nights of the week for not only myself, but many local bluegrass lovers in our town.
More than just a night out listening to great tunes, the Jam>Grass>Jam also became a gathering place for community. After countless Wednesdays seeing the same familiar faces every week we became much more than just an audience, we became a family.
It is with that family in mind that the Stoplight is proud to announce the return of Jam>Grass>Jam. We know that our porch will pale in comparison, but in honor of our normal gathering place, we feel compelled to find a way to bring the family back together again for a night of fun & healing.
Please RSVP with @ratdogfreak via text message at 630-258-0635.
So….if you are a part of the Jam Grass Jam Fam we hope you’ll join us this Wednesday for a cobbled together version of one of Asheville’s best re-occurring musical events. As always there will be no ticket fee, but we encourage you to bring any cash you can spare to tip the band.

MELISSA AND McKINNEY
Meet the dynamic mother-daughter duo whose powerful blend of blues, rock, americana, funk, and soul creates a musical experience that resonates deeply with audiences. The mother, a passionate vocalist, draws from the depths of her soul, channeling her life experiences into raw, evocative performances. Her daughter, an energetic bassist and vocalist, infuses every note with funk influences, crafting a sound that’s both contemporary and timeless.
Together, they are not just musicians but also storytellers, using their lyrics to explore themes of trauma and resilience. As songwriters, they connect on a profound level, weaving their personal narratives into captivating melodies.
Outside of their musical endeavors, both women serve as cultural arts and educators at LEAF Global Arts, where they inspire others through the transformative power of music. They also co-organize a music festival dedicated exclusively to showcasing women musicians, championing female talent in a male-dominated industry.

The Infamous Stringdusters are a celebrated American progressive bluegrass band known for their virtuosic musicianship, innovative arrangements, and genre-blending style. The GRAMMY® Award-winning Americana quintet—Andy Falco [guitar], Chris Pandolfi [banjo], Andy Hall [dobro], Jeremy Garrett [fiddle], and Travis Book [double bass]—have musical influences that truly run the gamut, but their common denominator is certainly bluegrass— the sound that has in essence defined the course of their career.
Jon Stickley Trio is a genre-defying and cinematic instrumental trio who’s deep grooves, innovative flatpicking and sultry-spacy violin moves the listener’s head, heart, and feet. “It’s not your father’s acoustic-guitar music, Instead Stickley’s Martin churns out a mixture of bluegrass, Chuck Berry, metal, prog, grunge, and assorted other genres—all thoroughly integrated into a personal style,” -Guitar Player Magazine.
