American Tune: Simon, Croce & Taylor, performed by award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Glynn, celebrates the timeless music and prolific songwriting of ‘70s era Paul Simon, Jim Croce and James Taylor, along with engaging stories about the songs and the artists themselves. Relive the intimate storytelling, intricate chord changes and breathtaking melodies of these gifted artists – their work building on and transcending the more traditional folk-influenced acoustic music of the previous decade.

Tom Glynn is a John Lennon Songwriting Contest winner and a Boston Music Award nominee for Outstanding Songwriter. Life Like Water, featuring Matt Smith on pedal steel, dobro and electric guitar is set to perform at Hawk & Hawthorne on Saturday, August 24. Richmond, Virginia’s Høly River will also perform. 

Life Like Water is the creation of multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, David Matters. With a focus on hypnotic rhythms, heartfelt lyrics, and melodies that contain flavors of Africa, Ireland and the Middle East, the music of this eclectic ensemble is sure to uplift and inspire.

Høly River was founded by multi-instrumentalists Laney Sullivan and Jameson Price. Fusing together the pulse of drone pop, worldly instrumentation, this experimental music would best be described as a landscape, as a biome all its own. This musical phenomenon has come to be known as “Earth folk,” a type of music inspired thematically by the natural environment: flora, fauna, soil, stars, and the human experience.

This summer we are following King Gizzard around the US a bit and playing some afterparties on select dates of the tour. Excited to be playing in some areas we’ve never been to, and we’re looking forward to making new friends on the road!

Initially drawing inspiration from Jam music and traditional Americana, the sound established in the early years was loose, but fun, maybe even slightly subdued. As the band developed further, so did their sound, reflecting a heavier and more psychedelic influence in their music. The first song he wrote was titled “Jay” an ode to his late Grandfather. Nick is quoted by saying “when the cords finally came together with the lyrics for the first time it brought me to tears and I knew this was something that  I could passionately pursue”.  Nick writes songs about love, life experiences and hardships we all face in the day to day grind. You can’t really put a label on the genre he resides in.  Nick dives into to a few different genres such as Blues, Country, Rock and Folk music. For the last few years Nick has been tearing up the local scene in Western North Carolina with his band Nick Mac & The Noise that has the reputation of being a smooth playing, good time chasing high energy rocking country band that brings a good mix of originals and eclectic covers to the table

Internationally recognized Sicilian-American singer, Michela Musolino (vocals, tamburello) and Italian-born country music artist Lorenzo Piccone renowned for his deep melodies and sentimental lyrics (guitar, mandolin, and other stringed instruments) will perform a duo concert of traditional Sicilian music at the Kittredge Arts Center on Tuesday September 17.  Whether you are an Italian American curious about your ancestral roots or a music academic or simply an enthusiast of acoustic musical traditions, this concert is sure to inspire and inform and move you in unexpected ways!

On the night of the full moon each month, we will host a small campfire under the moon.

The dynamic band Garcia Peoples, featuring guitarists and vocalists Tom Malach and Danny Arakaki, drummer Cesar Arakaki, bassists Andy Cush and Derek Spaldo, and keyboardist P.G. Six., was formed in Rutherford, New Jersey. The group takes inspiration from the improvisational and psychedelic jam bands of the 1960s. With a stash of live recordings accumulating at the Live Music Archive, Garcia Peoples’ music is very much a living entity.

A Nashville institution in the making, Country Westerns infuse punk rock chutzpah with a classic rock sheen, yielding a sound that’s simultaneously fresh and reminiscent of all the LPs you used to “borrow” from your cool uncle. Work harder, not smarter: classically bad advice, but when it works, it works. Country Westerns are a force, punk rock lifers playing rock music with hearted-sleeves and punched-guts. Loud and furious but with a nuance that belies their delicate and varied pedigrees.

Car Becomes Airplane is a 4-piece punk band whose sound is a blend of indie-alternative, 50s doo-wop, and saturday morning cartoons. NephewCube is an NYC based amalgamation of Neo-Soul, Balkan Brass, Psychedelic and Prog Rock.
