What is The Alien Music Club? It’s a musical collective from Asheville’s Jonathan Pearlman, who operates in relative obscurity within the area’s thriving music scene. “I operate under the pseudonym AMC, because I’m painfully shy and self-deprecating. I’m no good at self-promotion, but I do make great music with my many very talented friends.”
AMC is a bit eccentric. Expect quirky, unusual, original material; jazz, rockabilly, funk, punk and general weirdness with lots of fun cover tunes. The lineup features JP (guitar/vocals), Chuck Lichtenberger (piano/vocals), Alex Travers (violin/guitar), Ryan Kijanka (bass) and Jaron Pearlman (drums/vocals).
“Weird is wonderful!” Says JP. “Let’s keep Asheville Weird!”

Yarn is an Americana, Alt-Country, Rock and Roll band founded in 2007 by Blake Christiana. Yarn evolved from its earliest days as a bar band in New York, NY to an outstanding roots band that’s shared stages with some of the biggest names in the business. You could say that Blake is the music and the music is Blake; that’s how deeply he inhabits the songs he writes and plays. You can hear him struggling with his feelings, whether it’s on a skittering country shuffle or on a mid-tempo folk ballad or a straight-ahead rocker.
Over the years, musicians have rotated in and out of Yarn, but drummer Robert Bonhomme and bassist Rick Bugel, along with Christiana, have remained the core of the band. Yarn has definitely brought people together with their music; their devoted followers call themselves the “Yarmy,” and for the last 4 years the band has hosted a three-day music festival, Yarnival, that attracted hundreds of fans to Troy, Virginia. Along the way, Yarn has gathered accolades from festivals, The Americana Music Association, landed on the Grammy ballot four times, and placed in the top five of the AMA album charts on more than one occasion.

Located at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, North Carolina, this year’s event features favorites like the famously tall 50-foot lighted tree and the Quilt Garden, along with enchanting new details designed to delight and surprise. MR JIMMY is the solo project of Blues guitarist & vocalist Jim “Ang” Anderson, who has fronted The Chicago Kingsnakes for the past 35 years. Blue Monday at the Joint next door started as a solo Blues show with Mr Jimmy and has evolved into a Jam Session of sorts. Jimmy is joined with different musical cohorts every week.

Welcome to the world of Electro Lust! Where Electronic Funk pulses through the veins, entwined with a stampede of live Beats and Brass into the realms of Funk, Latin, Cuban, and Afrobeat. At the core of Electro Lust beats the hearts of Grammy Award-winning artists from Asheville, NC’s musical scene – Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, The Fritz, and Empire Strikes Brass.
Pink Beds is an electro-indie rock band that sits at the intersection of spacious grooves and lush song crafting. Pink Beds blend all of their influences into something new that rises above the nameless, faceless blur of generic indie rock emanating from NYC to L.A. and not enough places in between.
From 6-8 pm we’ll just be hanging out, eating great food, and having drinks (non-alcoholic available, too!). There will be drink specials all night!
At 8pm, we’ll show our very short mini-documentary about the industry here and what we’re doing to make it better for all of us.
Then after the film and some brief comments, KJ Franco NINO of Shakey’s (@our.sirof.thunder ) will be hosting an awesome karaoke from 8:30-10:30.

The Saylor Brothers are a jamgrass fusion group from Asheville, fronted by brothers Will & Ben Saylor, of Brushfire Stankgrass. This project is a foray further into the realm of bluegrass jam, with more emphasis on improvisation piled on top of a structure of traditional bluegrass and innovative original songwriting. As a trio with Greg Stiglets on bass, the band packs a large sound coming from three acoustic instruments, and often adds a fourth player for further improvisational and bluegrass firepower.
Jam > Grass > Jam is not an open bluegrass jam but is a residency featuring a rotating casts of special guests from Asheville’s bluegrass/jamband scene.

David Dondero will be reading from his book, Chaos the Cat. We will have copies for sale and it will include a music performance by him and local musician Ben Asbury (of Axxa/Abraxas).
