American Tune: Simon, Croce & Taylor, performed by award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Glynn, celebrates the timeless music and prolific songwriting of ‘70s era Paul Simon, Jim Croce and James Taylor, along with engaging stories about the songs and the artists themselves. Relive the intimate storytelling, intricate chord changes and breathtaking melodies of these gifted artists – their work building on and transcending the more traditional folk-influenced acoustic music of the previous decade.

Tom Glynn is a John Lennon Songwriting Contest winner and a Boston Music Award nominee for Outstanding Songwriter. A number of his songs have been chosen by NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association) for their coveted Top 40 honor, and his music has been featured on ABC, Fox, Lifetime and Showtime. The Boston Globe calls Tom “a tunesmith at the top of his game.”

Eli Kahn is a guitarist, producer & improviser with degrees in both classical guitar performance & music theory. Having spent over a decade performing with various ensembles (ranging from modern jazz to neo-soul to hip-hop to ambient to experimental music), he has developed his own distinct style by live looping with a custom-built, seven-string hybrid guitar, allowing him to fill the roles of multiple instrumentalists all at once.

The Sufi Brothers are Aaron “Woody” Wood on vocals and guitar and Jason Krekel on vocals, mandolin, guitar, and fiddle. The Sufi Brothers play an improvised set that starts with a tribute to country roots, blues, gospel and folk, then travels a path unknown guided by an openness and sensitivity to each other and the universe.

Crystal Fountains is a bluegrass/Americana/indie-folk band from Charlotte NC

The show is a unique collection of stories from the Harvest Records universe and beyond produced with Erin Brethauer of This Land Films. The stories will be presented live on stage alongside original music, film, animation, photography, and featuring stage design and installations by Swannatopia.

Life Like Water, featuring Matt Smith on pedal steel, dobro and electric guitar is set to perform at Hawk & Hawthorne on Saturday, August 24. Richmond, Virginia’s Høly River will also perform. 

Life Like Water is the creation of multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, David Matters. With a focus on hypnotic rhythms, heartfelt lyrics, and melodies that contain flavors of Africa, Ireland and the Middle East, the music of this eclectic ensemble is sure to uplift and inspire.

Høly River was founded by multi-instrumentalists Laney Sullivan and Jameson Price. Fusing together the pulse of drone pop, worldly instrumentation, this experimental music would best be described as a landscape, as a biome all its own. This musical phenomenon has come to be known as “Earth folk,” a type of music inspired thematically by the natural environment: flora, fauna, soil, stars, and the human experience.
