An Evening with Ivy Eld + Friends: Remembering Our Roots @ The Grey Eagle

This evening with Ivy Eld, her band, and other special musical guests is sure to be a heart-expanding and soul-nourishing show for listeners. It will be a cross-cultural musical experience that invites us all to get curious about our own ancestral roots. At this show, Ivy and her band will play some folk rock tunes from her debut album. She is also delighted to host and perform with some wonderful guest artists who hail from a variety of cultural identities and heritages–Eastern Band Cherokee, Mexican/Aztec, African American, Scandinavian, Celtic, and more. This evening will be about celebrating our diversity, cherishing our shared humanity and commonalities, and experiencing the healing that can come from music, stories, and honest reflection and connection.

David Zoll Trio @ Pisgah Brewing Black Mountain

David Zoll grew up on Long Island, NY with a steady diet of doo-wop, Motown and classic R and B from local oldies radio, Willie Nelson, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Everly Brothers from his parents, and Brian Setzer, the Ramones and Black Sabbath from his brother. Later on with stints in upstate NY and Florida, and a first serious study of the guitar, he was influenced by everything from the finger-style guitar of Chet Atkins, the classic dub of Lee Perry, and the complete buffoonery of Frank Zappa. David moved to the Asheville NC area in the summer of 2006, and with the support of his family, friends, and beautiful wife, released his first self-titled EP in the spring of 2011.

In partnership with Women to the Front, The Outpost is excited to present Mama and The Ruckus, an intergenerational Roots project with a big sound and an even bigger heart. The Ruckus is led by Mama who writes songs about the trauma and pain that every person inevitably experiences in their lives. With soaring guitars, wailing vocals, screaming harmonicas, and funky bass, keys, and drums, the Ruckus has a sound that is undeniably unique.

This event is part of WTF Week. WTF week is a week long celebration leading up to the Women to the Front Music Festival taking place Sept 10th-17th at venues across Asheville who will be celebrating all the talented women who help make Asheville such a wonderful place to live.

WTF Week: The Red Hot Sugar Babies @ Sovereign Kava

The Red Hot Sugar Babies perform sassy jazz and sultry blues of the roaring 20’s-30’s including Vintage Jazz, Blues, Swing, Ragtime, Dixieland, New Orleans. Influenced by Ethel Waters, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, Jelly Roll Morton they play a mix of the pop music that created the first dance craze to sweep the nation. Come dance The Charleston and revisit the era of flappers, speakeasies, rumble seats, and bathtub gin.

Doors open at 12 pm. Tasting is from 1-3. Dance party is 3-5. Playing traditional Cajun music with a little honky-tonk thrown in, Jackomo Cajun Country Band has been hosting local Cajun dances for a decade!
