Asheville based BrassFunkRock band Empire Strikes Brass has a lot to say with a big sound. Chock-full of serious groove from a thumping rhythm section highlighted by lush horn arrangements played by a thick horn section, the band’s compositional roots as well as it’s creative and collaborative soul contribute lots of depth in their original tunes and covers that speak volumes to ESB’s evolution.
Founded in 2012, ESB has grown from a party band of friends playing New Orleans-originated or inspired second-line and funk tunes with elements of rock and jam. Now, it consists of a collective of players, singers, songwriters, and producers who have found an original sound that fuses their individual musical influences with fresh ideas while still holding true to their foundation.

Bringing the soul from Greensboro, North Carolina, Ranford Almond is a young singer/songwriter and troubadour that has begun to make his mark across the Southeast. Raspy fresh vocals meet the Appalachian strings of Ranford’s acoustic guitar, reminiscent of John Prine, and Towns Van Zandt with his own unique stamp. Furthermore, his talent extends far beyond composition and strumming, as he is a warrior on the electric as well.

Ashes & Arrows captivate audiences around the country with their strong vocals, thoughtful
lyrics, and on-stage charisma. While stuck at individual musical crossroads, Ciaran, Jonathan, and Ben met at an open mic in downtown Asheville in 2021 and immediately regained their joy and inspiration to write and perform music now as a band. Ashes & Arrows write their songs in an authentically original form, whilst bringing a mesmerizing flare with strong 3-part harmonies. This trio recently appeared on America’s Got Talent!
Local Favorite Blues/Rock Band, Mama and the Ruckus is led by the powerful vocalist and lyricist, Melissa McKinney. Joining Melissa are Patrick French and Owen Myers on guitar, Matt Guard on keys, Michael Dunham on bass, Hinton Edgerton on drums, and Rob French on harmonica. Host of the roots music history podcast, American Songcatcher, Nicholas Edward Williams is a multi-instrumentalist and storyteller who is dedicated to “playing it forward” by preserving the songs, stories, artists and styles that have shaped our country: Ragtime, Piedmont Blues, Early Country, Traditional Folk and Old-Time.
Hannah Kaminer is an Asheville, North Carolina-based artist who is known for her poignant songwriting, clear voice, and often comedic stage presence. Raised in small towns in Western North Carolina, Kaminer writes songs about love, loss, and home, fusing echoes of Appalachian and country traditions with wistful, Americana-style songwriting.
Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Transylvania county chapter of JuniorAppalachian Musicians (JAM,) a nonprofit whose mission is ” to provide communities with the tools and support they need to teach children to play and dance to traditional old time and bluegrass music” and “.. [to give children] the opportunity to experience community through the joy of participating in traditional mountain music together.”

Saylor Brothers are a bluegrass/jam trio that had it’s genesis in the John Hartford Jam which occurred in Asheville from 2014-2020. Along the way of hosting this jam, brothers Will & Ben Saylor (banjo/guitar) collaborated with nearly every picker in the Asheville bluegrass scene, catching nationally touring players in town while off tour, and building chemistry & connections with many of the best pickers in town. Adding frequent collaborator Greg Stiglets on bass in 2021 and officially forming a trio, the band performs originals, jammy trads & covers, (and of course the odd Hartford tune or two) at their high energy shows.
