With songs like, “I like your mom (more than you)” “I Wish (Your Dog Didn’t Look At Me When We Make Love)” “I’m Not Bothered (By Your Birthmark)” and “It’s Not Me (It’s You)” Chess Club has found a way to tap into the depth of humanity while speaking truth to power. The song writing duo, of Champagne (Adam Chase) and Paris (Danny Darress), have been compared to Lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards in prowess, Bret and Jermaine, & Jack and Kyle in wit. Rolling Stone and New York Times were left speechless.

Come enjoy an evening of high energy music from 2 of Asheville’s favorite local bands Hustle Souls & Krave Amiko.
Hustle Souls is an Asheville based band who blend Retro-Soul, New Orleans Brass Music and Americana. American Blues Scene called Hustle Souls a “generation-jumping mashup of new school second line funk with old school vintage soul.” Overflowing with energy and spontaneity; roaring B3 organ and jubilant brass are balanced with 3-part vocal harmony and a lust for songwriting.
Krave Amiko is a genre-blending 5 piece band from Asheville that focuses on lyrical storytelling, compelling melodies, and catchy choruses. Started in 2019 by songwriter Robert Walsh and singer Stephanie Barcelona, their energetic live shows turn even casual listeners into life-long fans.

Asheville based BrassFunkRock band Empire Strikes Brass has a lot to say with a big sound. Chock-full of serious groove from a thumping rhythm section highlighted by lush horn arrangements played by a thick horn section, the band’s compositional roots as well as it’s creative and collaborative soul contribute lots of depth in their original tunes and covers that speak volumes to ESB’s evolution.
Founded in 2012, ESB has grown from a party band of friends playing New Orleans-originated or inspired second-line and funk tunes with elements of rock and jam. Now, it consists of a collective of players, singers, songwriters, and producers who have found an original sound that fuses their individual musical influences with fresh ideas while still holding true to their foundation.
Root Down will be serving their delicious twist on Southern Soul Food PLUS we will have our FULL bar open for you to enjoy!
